2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer vision.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire content from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our audience.
The belief in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. Following several months of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and background in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the recent years creating and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting him in the coming days. We are all excited to keep seeing the development of the game in the months to come.
David
Brinkman presently serves in the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had stints at other industry leaders.
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Initially, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
The game does not have an announced release date or supported systems, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as creation advances.
